Emanuel Wuethrich was first trained as primary school teacher before joining the Berne Music Conservatory (Switzerland).

In 1981 he was appointed Professor of Music Theory at the University of the Arts in Berne.

For many years he has not only been interested in Indian arts, literature and yoga but also introduced his Western students to Indian music and culture.

During his stays in India he attended the annual conference of the Music Academy Madras and built an archive on Indian performing arts. He also participated in the www.carnaticstudent.org e-learning course conducted by Ludwig Pesch in conjunction with the department of Indology of Wuerzburg University (Germany).

Emanuel Wuethrich and Ludwig Pesch jointly initiated a music education research project titled \\\"Sam, Sammlung, Zusammen!\\\" with Natanakairali Centre for traditional Kerala art forms as its partner at the Berne University of the Arts. The meaning of the title in English is „Sam, Reflection, Gathering Together“.
