BA Music
The Bachelor programme in Music offers prospective musicians a broad education in the fundamentals of practice and theory. At the core of the studies lies, depending on the main subject, work on the instrument, voice or in the areas of composition and media-based forms of expression. The intensive study of music theory, musical improvisation, historical performance practice and contemporary music provides the context.
The modular structure of the programme and its interdisciplinary components make it possible to establish a dialogue with other art forms. The programme paves the way to a prospective career in music as an improviser, interpreter, composer or agent.
The Bachelor’s degree is not a professional qualification. It prepares students for the specialisation within a Master programme.
Information
The programmes split into the following three fields:
Classical Music (with the Majors Instrument/Voice, Composition, Band conducting)
Jazz (with the Major Instrument/Voice)

Perspectives
The main aim of the course is to impart the fundamental skills of the art of music in the areas of improvisation, composition, conducting, theory and media, and the ability to work as an independent artist. Among the learning goals are the development of music criticism skills and multi-disciplinary work with other schools in the University. Other aims are the fostering of independent work, autonomous time management, and the targeted use of the student’s own resources. Along with progression to the master’s courses, transfer to other music-related activities such as journalism or the musical supplies business are envisionable future options.
