BA Theatre
The Bachelor programme in Theatre provides a broad education. It encompasses various aspects of theatre, from the artistic concept to the practical realisation and including various theoretical approaches. Students develop the most important skills for their own theatre work. At the same time, they are able to critically analyse aesthetic, qualitative and methodological aspects of theatre.
In addition to acquiring acting skills, project work forms an important part of the programme. It promotes insights into all stages of a theatrical production, develops competencies in project management and – supplemented by the study of contemporary and historical theatre practice and theory – builds the foundations for independent activity in the theatrical world. The syllabus covers the areas of body, voice, production, theory and media. It is concluded with a practical project.
In the Bachelor programme, students develop an individual professional profile, forming the basis for their specialisation in the subsequent Master programme.

Perspectives
As a broad foundational theatre education, the Bachelor's degree functions as a first artistic qualification. Graduates get the basic competences for work in the German-speaking theatre or in radio, film or television. In addition, their timetable also features the independent development and implementation of projects. Bachelor graduates have the opportunity to apply for a subsequent Master's degree to specialise on a higher level.
Today, there is rarely a clear-cut professional career path ahead of graduates. The possible areas of work are broad, but competition is fierce. Apart from permanent employment in a theatrical ensemble, freelance work as an independent artist is becoming increasingly important. Flexibility and the continuous readiness to learn and adapt are prerequisites for a successful artistic career.
Possible employment avenues are:
- Actor in the spoken-word theatre
- Work in professional independent theatre productions
- Film and television actor
- Radio announcer, voiceover artist, audio book actor
- Related areas in the coaching area, etc.
