Graduate School of the Arts
The Graduate School of the Arts (GSA) of the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Bern and of the Bern University of the Arts (Bern University of Applied Sciences)
The GSA is a collaboration between the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Bern and of the Bern University of the Arts (itself a department of the Bern University of Applied Sciences). It offers an interdisciplinary doctoral programme that is intended for both artists engaged in research and scholars with an interest in artistic praxis. In the GSA, theory and practice engage closely with each other, as do practice-oriented research and pure research. In the GSA, the doctoral students realize their own project in a stimulating environment that introduces them to scholarly and artistic networks. The students profit from synergies between the two universities and can establish specific areas of competence.
During the three-year pilot phase from autumn 2011 to the summer of 2014, the Graduate School is as a rule accessible only to members or graduates of the University of Bern and the Bern University of the Arts.
