Using the library

Terms of Use

Borrowing

The library is open to the public. Anyone with a valid IDS library card may borrow media. The card can be obtained free of charge at the HKB Mediothek. The BFH card can also be activated for use as a library card.

Borrowing media is free of charge. Users may borrow as many media as they like. Certain media such as semester equipment, rare items and current issues of periodicals are not available for borrowing.

Ordering media from other libraries

Media from other libraries in the NEBIS network (e.g. ZHdK, HGK Basel, Zurich Central Library) can be ordered for pickup at the HKB Mediothek for free, or delivered to your home for a small fee.

Loan periods

The loan period for books is 1 month. At the end of this period, the loan is automatically extended for another 2 months as long as another user has not reserved the book. Thereafter, you can manually extend the loan via your library account up to three times.

The loan period for DVDs and Blu-ray discs is 14 days and will be automatically extended as with books.

After the loan period has expired, or if a reservation has been made, you will receive a call-back via email or regular mail.

Late fees will be charged for late return of media (see Terms of Use).

Library account

Your library account provides an overview of the media you have on loan and any reservations, as well as the possibility to manually extend the loan and change your address.

To log in you will need your ID number and password, which consists of the first five letters of your last name.

To register for the first time and to activate your BFH card for use as a library card you must appear in person at a NEBIS network library. Just ask the library staff.
