Account "Library Use" – "User account"
Account Registration Registering for a library account/card is done in person at the check-out desk. Please bring an official photo ID of some type (passport, national ID card) with you. Registration is required only once and the cost is CHF 22.- (CHF 6.- for those under 20 years of age
Accountability Copyright-related: All media borrowed from this library are covered by copyright law. They are intended strictly for personal use. Library users are responsible for making their own inquiries and arrangements relating to all legal permissions for use and royalty payments. / Fees related to materials delivered by post / The Music Library is accountable for the loss of any item loaned out via postal delivery until the specified item has been delivered to the user by the postal service. From the time the library item is delivered to the address specified by the user to the time it is received again by the library (either delivered in person at the Reception desk, or by return post), the user is accountable for the item.

Antiquariat The Music Library is always happy to receive musical scores, books, and audiovisual media as gifts. Any items that are not added to our collection will be made available to students and other users to take at no charge. Courier Service The BUA Music Library does not participate in the Bern Courier Service, but you may order library materials for home delivery by Post (at a cost of CHF 12.- per item).

Incomplete Media Returns Please check all library media before return to make sure they are complete (all separate instrumental parts or CDs are present). Incomplete returned items must remain checked out to your account until all parts have been returned.

Interlibrary Loan The BUA Music Library does not participate in the international Interlibrary Loan program. If you would like to order media from the Basel Music Academy or from a foreign library, you will need to do so at the check-out desk of the Bern Zentralbibliothek 
Internet Use Next to the check-out are two Macs with Internet connections, to be used expressly for catalog searching In the reading room are 5 Macs and 5 PCs with Internet connections. These computer work-stations are intended to be used exclusively for activities that support study or teaching responsibilities at the BUA

Lost Library Cards If you lose your library card we will be happy to replace it. The replacement fee is CHF 6.-.-
Lost Media If you should lose a library item, please contact us in person at the check-out desk. We will replace the item and bill you for the replacement cost.
Lost Music/Books/Audio Recordings If you have lost an item that belongs to the library, please contact us at the front desk. We will then arrange to replace the item at your cost.

Marks made by users Please do not write in any of our materials (no fingerings, breath marks, bowings, transpositions, etc.). When musical scores are returned, if they have handwritten marks in them that were not already noted by us before you checked them out, you will have to erase them immediately at the check-out desk before we will accept them.

Password The typical library-assigned password consists of the first five letters (all capitals) of your family name. You may change your password at any time via your User Account. To prevent others from accessing your account, change the password the first time you sign into your account, and do not share your password with anyone. (Remember to make note of the new password.).

Reserved Media Media that have been reserved by another library user cannot be prolonged, but must be returned to the library. (You may of course reserve the item in order to check it out again.)
Reserving Library Materials If you need a musical score or book that is currently out on loan, you may reserve it via your User Account. To do this you will need to enter your user number and password. You will receive an automated e-mail notification as soon as the reserved item is returned (at the end of the current loan period).
Return Policy “Circulation”
Return Reminder Notices Read our return reminder e-mails and post mail carefully. You may be required to return an item, but you may also be able to prolong the loan period online, by telephone or by e-mail.
Returning Media Library media may be returned either in person at the check-out desk or by post. Please make sure the media are in their original condition and all parts or enclosed materials are included. Please be aware that all musical scores are checked upon return by library personnel to make sure they are complete and that no new marks have been made in them. If a score contains marks that were not already noted in our catalog records, the user will be required to erase all marks immediately at the check-out desk. If you have returned a marked-up score by post, we will send you and e-mail requesting that you come to the library and erase the marks. Until you have done so, the score will remain checked out to your account. Incomplete returned items will also remain checked out to your account until all components have been returned.
Return Process All items are checked upon return to ensure that all components are included. In addition, we check musical scores for marks (fingerings, breath marks, bowings, translations, transpositions, etc.). Should a musical score contain marks that were not already noted as present when you checked them out, you will be expected to erase these marks immediately at the check-out desk

Semester Apparatus Faculty may request that selected media be placed in the Semester Apparatus for on-site use by students participating in certain classes or performance projects. “Semesterapparat” media can be found behind the check-out desk and are to be used only in the library.

Wheelchair Access Unfortunately, only the ground floor reception and check-out area are wheelchair-accessible; the reading room, complete works editions, general reference works, and audiovisual media are only accessible via a staircase. Please ask at the front desk if you would like us to bring an item from upstairs for you.
