The main teaching and working language of the HKB is German - depending on the site of study, it can also be French (Biel/Bienne). Basic knowledge of German or French is a requirement for coming to study at the HKB. In some study programs we require a proof of Language proficiency. Please find out what the teaching language of your preferred program of studies is.

German Integration Course for Exchange Students

2 weeks before the start of each spring or autumn semester, the department "Deutsch als Fremdsprache" (German as a foreign language) of the University of Bern conducts a two-week German integration course for exchange students. Participation is highly recommended to non-German-speaking students. You will get information about the city of Bern as well as Swiss culture, politics and history and the course will also allow you to meet other exchange students and to "reactivate" your German.
