Doctorate / GSA

Would you like to doctorate in the arts? The BUA makes this possible!

The doctoral programme at the «Graduate School of the Arts (GSA)» is a collaboration between the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Bern and the BUA. The GSA assists in developing a dissertation and is aimed at both artists engaged in research and scholars. Music and art graduates can access the three-year doctoral programme through the "Specialised Master in Research on the Arts" (MRA). In this one-year programme students are made familiar with the methods of scientific research in their academic discipline and actively participate in research projects of the BUA or the University.

In the GSA, the doctoral students realise their project in a stimulating environment and gain access to artistic and scientific networks. They profit from synergies between the two higher educational institutions and can establish specific areas of competence.
