Composition

The objective of this education is to enable students to make artistic statements that are convincing in a polystylistic environment. The degree is based on completing an independent Master’s project. At its heart lies the development of a differentiated compositional craft and a personal signature as well as the ability to justify and communicate one’s aesthetic position. The historical background to the work is also taught, sensitising students to contemporary cultural and social developments. According to stylistic preference, students with the specialisation in Composition matriculate in Bern or Zurich. In collaboration with the other MAs in music, the compositions are tested in practice and discussed. Students acquire experience in learning pieces, rehearsal work, directing ensembles and other practice-related activities.
