In today’s world, classical music, jazz and folk music, popular music, various forms of ethnic music, World music and musical theatre are widespread forms of music: they also require teaching. Music teachers encourage children and adults from different musical and cultural backgrounds. Their professional life is generally diverse: they teach at general or music schools, they are active as musicians and they lead or accompany projects such as concerts, musicals, tours and events. Some specialise in adult education. Music and Movement teaching for people with specials needs is also gaining significance.



Students graduate with a Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy.

The Master’s degree is a qualification to work as a music teacher. As a specialist training of aspiring middle school teachers it leads, together with the educational-theoretical degree at the Pädagogische Hochschule Bern, to a teaching qualification for schools up to Maturität level.
