Frühlingssemester 2019


Field Trip to Berlin

Peter Kessel is a Berlin based Communication Designer and Consultant for Cultural and Creative Entrepreneurship at Kreativwirtschaftsberatung Berlin. He studied Design Entrepreneurship at the MA Design of the Bern University of the Arts HKB. Besides of his BA studies at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences HTW, he worked as an independent designer, founding and heading a student’s design studio as well as working for Schöneweide Kreativ – a creative economy networking project funded by the European Union.

 

Organising the Guest Lecture Festival

Robert Lzicar is a designer, professor, and researcher. He is based at the Bern University of the Arts HKB, where he teaches design history, directs the MA Design, and coordinates the Research Field Design History. He is co-coordinator of the research project “Swiss Graphic Design & Typography Revisited” (SNSF Sinergia, from October 2016). As a designer, Robert Lzicar is a partner in the design studio STVG in Zurich.

 

Miriam Koban is senior assistant at the MA Design at the Bern University of Arts HKB and  junior assistant in Art History of Modern and Contemporary Art at the University of Fribourg.  Miriam holds a BA in Visual Communication at the Zurich University of the Arts and Art History and Contemporary History at the University of Fribourg. Her current research focuses on transnational aspects of graphic design in Switzerland.

 

Design and Power

Theresia Leuenberger is an architect (Dipl.-Ing.) and holds a PhD in Sociology from the Technische Universität Berlin where she is currently working as a researcher. Her teaching and research cover practices of planning and designing with a focus on their social aspects and innovative content.

 

Design Ethics

Annina Schneller is a philosopher, design researcher and a lecturer at the Bern University of the Arts and at the University of Salzburg. She runs publication projects for vatter&vatter and curates design exhibitions at erlesen – Raum für gedruckte Feinkost at PROGR in Bern.

 

Designing Advertising

Lucas Conte is Head Of Strategy at Publicis Communications Schweiz AG. His background is in creative direction and design, but he has been working in planning for many years now with a wealth of diverse experiences. Lucas is based and work mainly out of Vienna. Creative agencies he has worked with are DDB (Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna, Milan), Jung von Matt and Saatchi & Saatchi (Berlin, Geneva).

 

Ignazio Morello is Client Creative Director at Saatchi&Saatchi. Integrated and human centered approach to Product and Corporate Advertising. From insight generation to concept to deliverable of brands communication thru all media. Strong analytical and problem solving skills in TTL&DIGITAL activities.

 

Fundraising and Writing Applications in Entrepreneurship

Matthias Vatter communicates, initiates and creates. He trained as a teacher, studied history, and has experience of running projects and setting up companies (on his own and with others; see www.lernetz.ch, www.projektforum.ch, www.vatterundvatter.ch, www.vatter-vermittelt.ch). He generates ideas, and has specialised in content mediation. Since January 2018, he has also been working part-time as Coordinator Arts in Context at the Bern University of the Arts.

 

Fundraising and Writing Applications in Research

Ulrike Felsing has been has been a lecturer for the MA Design course at the Bern University of the Arts since 2010. She studied visual communication at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts (HGB). In collaboration with Ruedi Baur, she is currently running the research project “The coexistence of Chinese and Latin characters and visual cultures”, which was funded by the SNSF from 2010 to 2015. Her research into “Dynamic identities in a cultural and public context” was published in 2010. She is currently studying for her PhD on media-reflective practice in contemporary design (“The catalogue as exhibition, film and hypertext”).

 

Show Your Work

The curator and designer Matylda Krzykowski is associated with transdisciplinary formats and methods. Her exhibitions and projects are presented internationally. She has given lectures worldwide in which she examines contemporary topics.

 

Present your Projects

Ferdinand Vogler’s passion for making the world better understandable matured by studying Communication Design in Berlin and doing his MA in Design Entrepreneurship. He works as Product Designer for the startup ahead in Bern.


Josh Levent spends his days designing solutions for clients, giving talks on digitalisation, and coaching speakers on their upcoming talks. He is the CEO of his own company, Josh Levent LLC, based in Bern. He completed his Master in Business Design at Domus Academy in Milan, Italy.

Design with Social Impact

Minou Afzali ist Lehrbeauftragte an der HKB und unterrichtet bei uns Design with Social Impact. Nach ihrem Studium an der Schule für Gestaltung, Basel und an der Hochschule für Gestaltung, Offenbach a. Main (Fachbereich Produktgestaltung) arbeitete sie während zehn Jahren als Designerin in den Bereichen Produkt-, Möbel-, Ausstellungs- und Kommunikationsdesign. Seit 2008 ist Minou Afzali künstlerisch-wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im Forschungsschwerpunkt Kommunikationsdesign. Ihr Forschungsfokus liegt auf Design in sozialen Kontexten, wie beispielsweise im Gesundheitswesen oder im Bereich der Migration. Derzeit schreibt sie ihre Doktorarbeit an der Graduate School of the Arts (GSA) zum Thema «Kommunikationsdesign in kultursensiblen Alters- und Pflegeeinrichtungen». Mehr zu Minou

 

Design Entrepreneurship

Thierry Blancpain ist Mitgründer der Schriftschmiede Grilli Type, wo er für die Geschäftsführung, für Web-Design und Programmierung, sowie für die Kommunikation verantwortlich ist. Vorher freischaffender Gestalter in den Bereichen Interaction Design und Branding, unter anderem für NZZ, Weltformat Poster Festival, Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, und Edition Patrick Frey. Organisation von TEDx Zurich Konferenz 2010–2012. 1985 in Zumikon bei Zürich geboren. Nach Abschluss einer kaufmännischen Lehre studierte er 2007–2010 an der HKB den BA Visuelle Kommunikation. Florian Jakober ist die eine Hälfte von Afrika, einem Design Studio in Zürich, das er 2011 zusammen mit Michael Zehnder gegründet hat. Nach seinem Studium in Visueller Kommunikation in Zürich und Rotterdam sammelte er Arbeitserfahrung in verschiedenen Studios, unter anderen Graphic Thought Facility in London und HI in Luzern. Ausgehend von Grafik- und Type Design erweitert Afrika stetig seine Grenzen in neue Felder wie Art Direction, Textildesign und Programmierung. Heute kollaboriert Afrika mit Schweizer und internationalen Kunden wie dem Museum für Gestaltung, Holzer Kobler Architekturen, Rico und Michael, Studio Omar Sosa, Musée Visionnaire, Edition Patrick Frey, Swisscom, Unesco etc.

 

Design Research

Arne Scheuermann is Head of the Main Research Unit Communication Design and Professor of Design Theory at the HKB, since 2005. Graduation as Communication Designer, several years of international professional experience in creative direction and design consultance; 2000-2005 lecturer at the University of Wuppertal; PhD in Communication Design (on design as rhetoric and on affects in film); author of several short films; Co-founder and -head of the Health Care Communication Design working group; since 2014 President of the Swiss Design Network; main focus of research activities: Social Communication, Visual Rhetoric. Design Processes and Story Frameworks

Nach Abschluss seines Digital Experience Design Master Programm bei Hyper Island, Manchester, UK in 2016, startete Dan Nessler als UX Director bei der Schweizer Agentur Hinderling Volkart. Davor sammelte er in verschiedenen Positionen fast 10 Jahre Erfahrung im Digitalen Umfeld, unter anderem bei Agenturen wie Jung von Matt/Limmat, Publicis and Scholz & Friends. Problem-Oriented Design

Ulrike Felsing ist seit 2010 Lehrbeauftragte an der Hochschule der Künste Bern. Sie studierte «Visuelle Kommunikation» an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst, Leipzig. Von 2004 – 2011 war sie wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Institut Design2context der ZHdK und arbeitete an verschiedenen transdisziplinären Forschungen mit. In Zusammenarbeit mit Ruedi Baur leitet sie das Projekt «Die Koexistenz der chinesischen und lateinischen Zeichen und visuellen Kulturen»; gefördert vom SNF: 2010-2015. Ulrike forschte zum Thema «Dynamische Erscheinungsbilder im kulturellen und öffentlichen Raum», publiziert 2010.
