Students get Bern ready for the WEURO

17.06.2025 From July 2nd, all eyes in Switzerland will be on the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025. BFH students have helped prepare Bern’s streets for the football summer. We show the photos.

Key points at a glance

  • In the lead-up to the WEURO, temporary street murals have appeared in Bern.

  • The paintings aim to enhance walking and cycling paths.

  • Students from the Bern University of the Arts were involved in the project.

100-Meter Walk

Aska Schär and Atalja Tapis created an inclusive public space at the Tscharnergut tram stop on Waldmannstrasse.

«The piece reflects our ideal vision of public space – a place for everyone, where people and nature can thrive together, where you can pause and feel welcome,» say Atalja Tapis and Aska Schär about their street mural.

Neighbourhood Game

At the Bierhübeli, Madeleine Brunner created a mural celebrating joy in football and community play.

Her illustration shows women playing casual football. «It’s meant to portray a lively and colourful neighbourhood and encourage women to claim space in public. The dots reference football but can also be used playfully by passers-by,» explains Madeleine Brunner.

Her mural brings colour to the district, aims to brighten everyday life, empower women, and inspire kids to hop from point to point.

Our Bodies! Our Streets! Our Pitch!

Together with her team, Alicia Hüsser created a street mural on Aarstrasse in the Marzili area. It encourages physical activity while also making a powerful statement about equality.

«The installation is a call for designing public spaces where TINFA* people can feel safe and equal,» says Alicia Hüsser. The integrated warm-up exercise is meant to spark interest in sport – especially among girls and TINFA* people.
