Situation

In today’s data economy, organizations struggle to manage and protect PII due to centralized systems, outdated records, and high compliance costs. Users lack control over how their data is stored, updated, or shared. Companies often hold sensitive customer and employee information unnecessarily, leading to increased risk of breaches, reputational damage, and heavy penalties under evolving regulations like GDPR.

Course of action

EmpowerID designs a modular, decentralized infrastructure that prioritizes security, compliance, and user empowerment. The core of EmpowerID is a central relay component acting as a trusted issuer and coordinator. It handles the creation, validation, and secure exchange of data in real time while ensuring compliance and privacy by design.

Result

The following results will be produced within project: - a functional prototype with the most important functions for demo purposes, - a detailed description of relevant use cases and a sound understanding of the needs of users and companies - a technical concept for sharing, updating and revoking data based on Verifiable Credentials with BBS signatures.

This project contributes to the following SDGs
