Situation
Healthcare professionals such as nurses are exposed to high levels of stress in their profession. This requires resilience. The term describes a person's ability to successfully cope with stressful situations and the consequences of stress. Resilience is not a static characteristic, but a dynamic process of dealing with stress. Resilience is created by actively dealing with challenges and utilising internal and external resources. In order to promote the development of resilience during training, Insel Gruppe (the largest Swiss healthcare provider) has developed the programme “Strong@Work” targeting young healthcare professionals. The programme aims to promote the mental health of healthcare assistants during their training, strengthen their resilience and support them in coping with the high demands of working life. During the three-year training, special teaching sequences are offered for this purpose. In this research project, we want to evaluate the effect of “Strong@Work”.
Course of action
The evaluation of the “Strong@Work” programme is based on Kirkpatrick's four-level model, which is frequently used to evaluate teaching-learning processes. A study design using a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods is implemented. The individual teaching sequences are to be evaluated afterwards by the trainees using standardised questionnaires. A qualitative research approach will be used to explore the individual experience of the programme in the target population. This will specifically address the learning content and its benefits for learners. Semi-structured individual interviews will be conducted. In addition, the impact of the programme from the perspective of the vocational trainers will be investigated in interviews and focus groups.
