Interview: Three questions for Lili Bodi
Why are you studying opera?
I am studying opera because it gives me the opportunity to express myself not only vocally, but also emotionally and intellectually. Each role is a journey that requires technical skill and psychological sensitivity, while also allowing me to connect with other people on a deep emotional level.
What was your first encounter with opera?
My very first encounter with opera was in secondary school, when I was allowed to sing in the children's choir of Georges Bizet's Carmen on the lake stage in Bregenz. The experience was overwhelming for me: the music, the atmosphere, the energy on stage – I knew immediately that I definitely wanted to continue with opera singing.
Which is your favourite opera and why?
My favourite opera is The Tsar's Bride by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, because its mixture of deep human emotions and expressive music captivates me every time. I am particularly moved by Marfa's purity and Lyubasha's passionate jealousy – two opposites that always make me think, both as a listener and as a singer.
