Interview: Three questions for Anastasia Evdaimon
Why are you studying opera?
I am studying opera to combine my deep love for the fine art of music and theatre. For me, opera is one of the highest expressions of art.
What was your first encounter with opera?
My first encounter with opera was through my grandfather vinyl’s collection that he brought moving from Russia to Greece. Later, as a child, my mother, who is a piano professor, often took me to opera performances at the Odeion of Herodes Atticus - a truly life-changing experience.
Which is your favourite opera and why?
Massenet’s Werther is my favorite opera, as Charlotte offers one of the most complex and rewarding roles for a mezzo-soprano. Beyond that, it is an excellent paradigm of the French Romantic music, blending extraordinary melodies with intricate harmonies and dramatic depth.
