Interview: Three questions for Daria Novik
Why are you studying opera?
Because, for me, opera is the highest art form: a perfect synergy between music, theatre, poetry and visual arts. It is a unique space in which human emotions in all their forms can be sublimated with rare power. Studying opera means learning to give voice to the soul using every artistic means possible.
What was your first encounter with opera?
My first encounter with opera was a recording by Anna Moffo. Her voice immediately captivated me with its softness, intensity and elegance. It was a floating, almost unreal moment that made me want to discover more.
Which is your favourite opera and why?
That's difficult to say, because it always depends on the moment. I tend to put all my affection, attention and love into the opera I'm currently working on. Every work becomes my favourite when I immerse myself in it, because I invest myself in it body and soul.
