As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the HKB Cineclub will present a screening of the film “The Shadow Pandemic” by Paola Ghislieri. The director will be on site for an introduction.

01.12.2025, 6pm – Fellerstrasse 11, 3027 Bern, Auditorium

According to recent data, nearly one in three women aged 15 to 49 in Switzerland has experienced violence from a partner. The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened this situation: lockdowns and social isolation have led to a dramatic increase in cases of domestic violence.

Since then, violence against women has increasingly been referred to as the “shadow pandemic,” highlighting its persistent and escalating impact alongside other global emergencies. Despite growing awareness, domestic violence often goes unreported due to stigma, fear, and lack of access to support—especially during times of social restrictions.

“The Shadow Pandemic” is a powerful new documentary by Paola Ghislieri that sheds light on widespread domestic violence against women in Switzerland. Through expert interviews and moving testimonies from survivors, the film not only reveals the scale and consequences of the crisis but also explores existing support systems and prevention measures to combat this phenomenon.
