Über die Arbeit sprechen Yang Ah Ham

Based on her experiences living in Korea, the Netherlands, and Turkey, Yang Ah Ham has been creating works about individuals and the collective existing within a social system, and that of socialized nature.

For years the artist Yang Ah Ham (b. 1968) has been invested in ongoing projects about life of the individual and the social system, demonstrated through such works as Adjective Life in the Nonsense Factory (Art Sonje Center, Seoul), Transit Life (Kumho Museum of Art, Seoul), and Dream…in Life (Insa Art Space). From 2019 she has produced the serial work Undefined Panorama (Alternate Space Loop) that depicts a neo-capitalistic society.

Ham has participated in major museum exhibitions and biennales both in Korea and abroad including Discordant Harmony (Art Sonje Center, Hiroshima MOCA), Art of Communication: Anri Sala, Yang Ah Ham, Phillippe Parreno, Jorge Pardo (MMCA), Gwangju Biennale, Shanghai Biennale, Busan Biennale and more. She has won the Art of the Year Award (ARCO) while being shortlisted for the Hermès Foundation Missulsang and taking part in the artist initiative project be mobile in immobility (DEPO / Total Museum,2011) along with her fellow artists of Korea, the Netherlands, and Turkey. Ham was an artist of residence from 2006 to 2007 at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, and a nominee for the Artist of the Year Award in 2013 that led to her Nonsense Factory project (MMCA).
