Interview: Three questions for Anna Beatriz Gomes

Why are you studying opera?

Because I believe it’s the most complete and ultimate art form. The perfect combination of music, drama and text, It’s visual, it’s auditory, it’s complex and complete. 

What was your first encounter with opera?

When I was 15 years old, I went to the opera theater in São Paulo (Brazil) to watch my singing teacher at the time perform an opera from her opera studio. She motivated me to learn the opera technique and sing opera and I fell in love with this beautiful art form. 

Which is your favourite opera and why? 

My favorite opera is ’Ariadne on Naxos’, because I love it when art talks about itself. We see in the first act the composer and the artist and then in the next act you see the opera happening. It’s an opera showing the backstage of an opera, it’s extremely dynamic and interesting.
