Daria Ryapolova made this project in the context of the course «Forecasting» and the Y-Institute's annual theme «Future».
In the age of social media, the rapid evolution of trends has become an overwhelming journey through a digital landscape. My project delves into the intricacies of trend forecasting, exploring the accelerated life cycle of trends and their impact on cultural expressions. As the digital realm bombards individuals with an incessant stream of information, I seek to understand the current dynamics of trend cycles, drawing inspiration from historical models and contemporary societal shifts. The essay summarizes older texts and theories about trends and their forecasting, comparing them with the now-known outcome and critically examines the paradox of self-expression in the era of highly diversified and specified aesthetics. Maintaining a balance between a thoughtful exploration of complex concepts and a light-hearted acknowledgment of the absurdities within the digital landscape, the essay encourages reflection on personal trend consumption, striving to unravel the complex interplay between genuine self-expression and conformity to marketable ideals.
