Lebenslauf

  • Jonas Kocher (*1977) is a sound artist and accordionist working in numerous artistic and social contexts. He has a strong interest in process oriented works, unstable situations and improvisation. He currently works in duo with Joke Lanz, in trio with Axel Dörner and Jacques Demierre, in duo with Gaudenz Badrutt, in trio with Hans Koch and Gaudenz Badrutt, with Tomaž Grom and Bertrand Denzler and the Šalter Ensemble. He also has the chance to collaborate with Radu Malfatti, Irena Tomažin, Kasper T.Toeplitz, Ilia Belorukov, Eiko Yamada, Christian Kobi, Christof Kurzmann, Michel Doneda, Kai Fagaschinsky, Chiyoko Szlavnic and many others.

    As sound artist Jonas Kocher has realised works that are situated between composed theatre, installation and concert pieces. He has been invited to present his work as accordionist or composer by major festivals such as Festival Météo Mulhouse (F), Festival Le Bruit de la Musique (F), Music Unlimited Wels (A), Ring Ring Festival Belgrade (RS), Cerkno Jazz Festival (SLO), Sanatorium of Sound Festival Sokołowsko (PL), Konfrontationen Nickelsdorf (A), Unerhört Festival Zürich (CH), Musik Festival Bern (CH), Umlaut Festival Berlin (D), Festival Sound Around Kaliningrad (RU), Goethe Institut Improv Festival Moscow (RU), Biennale Zagreb (HR), Irtijal Festival Beirut (LIB), Izlog Festival Zagreb (HR), Festival Sonic Circuits Washington (USA), Art Biennale Thessaloniki (GR), Venice Biennale (IT) a.o.

    Jonas Kocher was awarded the Artist in Residence Scholarship (Cité des Arts Paris) of the Canton of Bern 2004, the recognition prize from the Canton of Bern 2010 and was awarded composition grants from the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia in 2012 and 2019. Award Winner of the Liechti Prize for the Arts 2020.
